The Floral Edit: Abigail of Seaholly Floral Design
Flowers can completely transform the feel of a wedding. From the first impression as guests arrive to the arrangements captured in the photographs, they are one of the details that can bring a couple’s style to life.
For Abigail of Seaholly Floral Design, no two weddings should ever look the same. Her approach is entirely bespoke, beginning with a conversation about how a couple wants their wedding to feel, rather than simply which flowers they would like to use.
A move towards colour
White florals will always have their place in wedding design, but Abigail is seeing more couples embrace colour and use it to create something that feels more personal.
“Colour is definitely having a moment at weddings,” she says. “White will always be timeless and classic, but I’m finding more and more couples are wanting to experiment with colour to really show their style and personality.”
It does not necessarily mean bright or dramatic. Softer tones can still feel romantic and elegant, with colour becoming another way for couples to express themselves through their wedding flowers.
Creating something personal
Abigail’s process starts with an hour-long consultation, giving couples the opportunity to talk through their plans, personal style, favourite colours and the overall atmosphere they want to create.
“I try not to focus too much on flower names, as this can feel a little overwhelming if you’re not a flower person,” she explains. “Instead, I like to focus on the overall style and feeling, and then I can bring the flowers into that.”
From there, Abigail creates a full proposal including a style summary, mood board and itemised quote. It gives couples a clear picture of how their ideas can come together, while leaving room for the finer details to evolve.
Flowers at Laceby Manor
There is something particularly special about working with a blank canvas, and Abigail finds the wedding spaces at Laceby Manor offer exactly that.
“It’s a breathtaking venue. Even the drive up the lane feels like you’re stepping outside of Grimsby and into a completely different place!”
The neutral setting lends itself to a wide range of floral styles, from classic and understated to glamorous, contemporary or more playful. It allows the flowers to become part of the overall design without competing with the setting itself.
Creating a moment
When it comes to working with a set floral budget, Abigail recommends thinking about impact rather than trying to decorate every available surface.
“I would always recommend investing in a statement piece and creating a real ‘wow’ moment.”
A statement urn, floral arch or larger installation can create a focal point for the day and, importantly, become a feature within the wedding photographs.
“Your guests might not notice lots of little bud vases dotted around the room, but they’ll definitely remember a big floral display at the end of the aisle.”
The timeless rose
Despite the changing trends and ever-growing choice of flowers available, one bloom remains a firm favourite.
“I will never, ever get bored of a rose. They’re a classic for a reason!”
With so many varieties, colours and forms to choose from, roses continue to offer endless possibilities. Romantic, classic and effortlessly beautiful, they remain a staple in Abigail’s studio.
For couples planning their wedding at Laceby Manor, flowers are an opportunity to create something that feels completely their own. With Abigail’s bespoke approach, the result is not simply beautiful floristry, but a considered part of the wedding day that reflects the couple, the setting and the way they want their celebration to feel.
